Spring Time Tea

In spring, the element of Wood exhibits the strongest energy. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Liver is the main organ connected to this season, and any imbalances in its function may become more noticeable during this period.

To support the Liver, you can prepare a simple daily tea each morning to give it extra nourishment. The Liver benefits from sour flavours, so lemon water and lemon tea are ideal beverages for this season.

For simple lemon water, I recommend 1 cup of room temperature water with the juice of half a fresh lemon squeezed in. If you would like to add the balancing herbs of ginger (warming) and mint (cooling), they create a lovely balanced tea that stimulates the brain, digestive system and Liver all at once.

How to Make it:

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 1 thumb-size piece of ginger, peeled and sliced length wise

  • 3 to 5 sprigs of mint (spearmint, peppermint or basil)

  • 1 cup hot but not boiling water

Steep the lemon, ginger and mint sprigs in the water for 5 to 8 minutes. Strain before drinking.
